For academic year 2016-2017, Washington University School of Medicine will be using the Association of American Medical Colleges Visiting Student Application Service (VSAS) to receive and process visiting student applications. Electives are available, space permitting, to full-time students in good academic standing who are enrolled in LCME-accredited medical schools in the United States. Students must be in their final year of medical school and have completed all required clerkships to be eligible for the program.

Due to limited available space in our elective courses, no off-block rotations are permitted, and visiting students may complete no more than twelve weeks of elective rotations.

In addition to applying through VSAS, visiting students must complete the additional documents below (Confidentiality Statement and Drug Screening Statement) and submit via postal mail to the Curriculum Office. Processing of applications will not begin until these documents are received and your VSAS application is submitted.

Once a student acceptance email is sent through VSAS, students must confirm their participation by submitting a $75.00 processing fee by check or money order, payable to Washington University School of Medicine. This fee is non-refundable.

Students interested in the Orthopaedic Surgery Externship must contact Heather Robinson before submitting a VSAS application. Contact Heather by email at, and find out more about the Orthopaedic Surgery Externship Program at
